What this site is for

Kick & Volt compares electric scooters for adults on the four numbers that decide whether you keep riding one: real-world range against the claimed figure, weight and fold size for carrying, hill-climbing power, and brakes plus IP rating.

The reason those four and not others is that they are where the gap between the marketing and the riding is widest. Across twelve scooters ridden until they shut down, real range averaged 71% of the advertised figure — and not one exceeded its claim. A buyer who knows that plans differently.

How we work, in one paragraph

We collect the manufacturer’s published specification. We find whatever a named third party actually measured. We put them side by side, label which is which, link the source, and date it. Where no independent figure exists, the page says “Not published” rather than estimating one. The full version is on how we research this, including the scoring rubric in formulas you can check.

What we do not claim

We have never ridden any of these scooters. No test rig, no purchased fleet, no mileage. Nearly every competitor in this category leads with a testing claim, and we could have written one too — but it would not have been true, and an unverifiable claim is worth less than a verifiable citation anyway.

You will not find a first-hand testing claim of any kind anywhere on this site. If you spot one, it is a mistake and we want to know about it.

Who writes it

Every article, review, comparison and guide here is written by Ryder M., the hands-on owner behind Magoo Media Group. He runs the research process described above: collecting published specifications, tracking down independent measurements, and putting the two side by side.

There is no editorial board, no panel of experts and no contributor network. One person doing the reading, with a byline on every page and a working email address at the bottom of it.

We are not going to pad that bio. Claiming qualifications, tenure or hands-on experience nobody has is the same failure as claiming a range figure nobody measured, and it is the one thing this whole site is organized against.

Who publishes it

Kick & Volt is published by Magoo Media Group, an independent publisher. The site is funded by affiliate commission — see the full disclosure — and commission plays no part in how products are ranked. In several cases on this site, the product ranked first is the cheapest on the page.
